DJ M, a.k.a Matt Heckman, grew up in fabled New York City.  Long before his fingers ever touched a cross-fader,  music played in integral role in DJ M’s life. Whether his headphones were attached to an FM radio, tape player or eventually a CD player, the music was always on.  Living in NYC was an ear-opening experience.  Exposed to a plethora of music from every possible genre, DJ M’s eclectic ear continues to amaze even the most discerning listeners.

Music was introduced to Matt at a young age.  Beginning with piano lessons in grade school, followed by an advanced study of percussion for the better part of a decade, Matt learned early on the fundamentals of music while most kids had barely learned the fundamentals of American History. Scrapping together summer earnings, Matt bought his first pair of turntables at the tender age of 18.  Locked away for the next two years Matt spent thousands of hours perfecting his skills and trademarking his style. It was during this time period that Matt’s lifestyle became deeply rooted in the soundtrack of the world around him.  From the internship at Atlantic Records, to classes in entrepreneurial business leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree from Skidmore College, Matt prepared for life as a DJ.

In the beginning, no gig was too small or obscure for Matt. From hole in the wall bars to house parties-work was work. From there he hustled himself into a position where he could learn the rules of the booth. Opening for DJ’s like Doug Grayson, DJ Vice, DJ Suss One and Victor Calderone Matt was able to watch seasoned pro’s rock crowds.  In the summer of 2007, DJ M got his break and made his debut performance at the Hampton’s hotspot STEREO.  From there it was weekly residency at another East Hampton scene: Flirt. Thereafter the sky was the limit. Known in the Hamptons as the “go-to” DJ for discerning corporate and private clientele and in NYC as a passionate downtown figure Matt’s record spinning abilities have taken him as far as Los Angeles.  Having spun along side world-class record spinners and for clients like Russell Simmons, Hugh Grant, Katie Lee Joel, Evian, Nike, and American Express, DJ M always brings his best to the decks. Today you can find DJ M rocking the crowd from behind the decks at some of New York’s finest nightlife establishments.
